Search tips
Although resources may employ different options, the following are generally
true for heplink.org searching:
- "And" and "Or" operators are generally supported (for example, searching
"frogs or toads" returns results with either or both words)
- Wildcard character * (asterisk) is supported (for example, ecolog* will find
both ecological and ecology) in several, but not all, databases
- Search is not case sensitive (for example, RAIN, Rain, and rain will produce
the same results)
- Full-text searching is available when supported by the database
- Limit the number of collections searched for faster results
Search examples
Here are some examples of the types of queries you can make using the HepLink
search engine Note, that all of the search examples below may not be
supported across all the resources that HepLink searches.

"hepatitis".
Vaccine

stemas the word "vaccine" (vaccines, vaccination). If a particular search does
not support stem resource searching, documents containing the exact word match
will be returned.

C"
hepatitis C OR hcv "hepatitis C OR hcv"

hcv

hepatitis, hiv, coinfection
Result list
- Results are hyperlinked to expanded information
- Results are returned as provided by individual resource; not ranked by
heplink.org
- Results are displayed by resource
- Display order depends on how quickly each resource responds (for example, if
Database A responds more quickly than Database B, results from Database A will
be listed above those for Database B)
- Total number of search results may need to be reset (for example, if
Database A returns 25 out of 70 results, return to the search page, increase
number of records to retrieve, and repeat the search)
- Total number of search results may be restricted by the database (for
example, Database A may limit results to 20, even though 25 was selected as the
number to retrieve)

The process of marking search return items and listing these marked items in
your browser can be repeated multiple times while working with the HEPLINK
search tool. Example: Once you have successfully initiated a search, marked your
desired documents and generated a list of marked items you can return to any of
the search areas: Master Search, Legislation, News, Education, Advocacy/Policy,
Clinical Practice and /or Research and repeat the search process.
When you feel you have completed your time working with the HEPLINK search
application you can click on display. Display will create a single document with
all of your marked returns 'opened' for content viewing that are now ready to be
either printed out, saved to disk or your hard drive, or deleted.
